***Comments on The Poetics of Interactivity***

The article entitled "The Poetics of Interactivity", by Margaret Morse, I got out of it that Morse feels as though interactivity does not require computerized assistance. Unlike film strips, or written works of art, interactive pieces allow for the viewer to become involved into the work of art. Ultimately transforming each viewer into part of the work itself. Morse makes the statement that the definition of interactive as of the early 90's, it was defined as something "pertaining to or being a computer or other electronic device that allows a two-way flow of information between it and a user". Yet she feels as though this is not entirely true, but predominately thought to be.

Secondly, and more importantly, Morse gives numerous examples on how viewers of an interactive piece use their eyes predominately to submerse themselves into a "virtual world."

"The anonymous relation between the user and machine enabled by an interface allows
humans, agents, bots, and simulations of humans to interact in computer supported
Exchange with each other as virtual subjects, whether on the Internet or Web or,
For that matter, via teleconferencing systems or satellite."

In terms of a web site, this would ultimately mean that if an artist generates a digital portfolio using a website, they would ultimately hold the power to submerse each viewer into their own virtual world, simply using a computer as the narrator, guide, medium, and or 'aid' for the virtual submersion. Each viewer, according to Morse, holds the power of interactivity throughout a website, which basically allows for more involvement then the old ways of simply reading an artists resume, mission statement, or any other "Hard Copy" of information.

And finally, the last idea that I found from this writing, was how Morse sees this new found technology based interestivity as a "Poetic" Art Form. I disagree with this for the same reason in whiich i don't feel as though Microsoft is not an Art Studio. I feel as though programmng, and technology [in terms of coding] is more of a science then an art form. And again i say this loosely due to the fact that the definition of ART is very open ended. I guess at the same time it is also very open ended as well. I mean some people can say art is everything. In that notion then yes, technology is a art for. But in my eyes, art is not something that can be tought through a book, yet technology [digital coding] can. I might be going over my own head here, but simply, I feel as though an IDEA of technology based interactivity is more artistic, more poetic... as opposed to the actual generation of the wok iteslef.

-=WebSite Update=-

This is my new update to my website. It was changed alot but the colors remained. I am hoping for a little feed back, but at the least look at it. The triangle images will only appear once an ART WORK link was solected. AND, as a hover over, the triangles will change to squares of the full thumbnail image.

` ' " BLOG UPDATE " ' `

Well, I haven’t visited my blog page in a while so I figured I might just leave a friendly update for all those who check my site daily and maybe wondered "when will Joshua post again"? So here I am, Friday afternoon on September the 1st, just waiting for time to fly by. The football game against BGSU and Wisconsin is tomorrow (WOOT) and I waiting here in the computer lab just working on some more awesome web site ideas. But for the most part, I am trouble shooting for an answer to why images will not post correctly on this page. So if you can see an image, then YES I win... if not, well then that means i just went ahead and posted this pointless blog anyway. Fleischer OUT !!!
